Who am I
Hi, welcome to a little corner of the internet. My name is 황찬웅(Chanung Hwang), a.k.a Komfyute. I was born on June 13, 2007. I found computers very interesting when I was 11 years old, and I've been learning and exploring them ever since.
I just realized it is very hard to describe who am I. Other than basic information, what sets me apart from others? Why am I me?
Since I can't answer to the question above, I'll briefly share a bit of history, and brag a little. I had a normal childhood and then became a high school student.
Although I didn't put much effort into my schoolwork, I studied programming quite diligently (it was fun), so I competed in the KOI (Korea Olympiad in Informatics) every year and achieved pretty good results. My best result was 27th place nationwide.
Anyway, I had to go to college after all, so I applied to Soongsil University with almost zero hope. Luckily I got accepted and I'm a freshman right now.
I use Arch btw. I think Linux is simply superior to Windows.
What I do
I code some... code, mostly. I wrote much more code than what has been made public, but most of it was lost due to my mild OCD. I've only recently realized the importance of archiving and am now trying to preserve as many histories as possible.
Here are a few notable projects:
- cgb: Yet another generic Game Boy emulator. Nothing special. But the codebase is tiny, so I like it. PPU emulation code was written by Google Gemini, simply because I couldn't figure out how on earth the PPU actually worked. Rewriting that part with my last two brain cells is planned, but I don't know when.
- racing-game: This one is funny. I solely wrote 2D top-down multiplayer racing game for high school festival. Well it's more like Subway Surfers rather than a racing game, but whatever. Important thing is that I overestimated battery time of school laptop. So the project our team spent a whole week with no sleep had to be shut down very early.
- sero: This is a programming language. I made tree walk interpreter alongside with bytecode compiler and virtual machine. Although I started this project just to show off, it sparked a deep interest in programming language theory and compiler design. One day I will turn this into a real general-purpose programming language. Creation is pain.
Actually, most of the public repositories were hastily put together over the summer break for college admissions portfolio. In other words, none of them were genuine projects I worked on during my free time. Since I've built this site with a fresh start, I hope that my future self will live a more productive life than I do now.
I really like programming, but I have other hobbies as well. That includes:
- Playing video games. Mainly FPS, but I also play other genres from time to time.
- Beatboxing. Not that good, somewhere around beginner to amateur level. It's fun.
- Just thinking. I'm not joking. I enjoy engaging in what I would like to call philosophical musings on various topics. If it weren't for computer science, I would definitely have majored in philosophy. In case you're interested, I sometimes write blog posts. Go check them out!

I think I have a lot of online accounts.
If you'd like to take a look at my late night overthinking, here it is.
